Chrysler town and country 1997 speed sensor issue?

ok my brother bought this 97 town and country that did not run, we put on a battery complete brake job, sway bar links, just to get it drivable. but yet we no have issues with the shifting of the trans. it shifts from 1 to 2 but only if you let off the gas. someone told me the trans speed sensor i guess it has 2 though. so what one do i replace? also i herd one was on the inside of the trans so im not sure if that is a novice job. the other issue is the coil pack has a toggle switch, you have to have the toggle on in order for the van to start and run. im guessing the ignition switch? if any one can give me some input on these issues and info on how to change the inner trans switch or if i should attempt it that would be great.Chrysler town and country 1997 speed sensor issue?
Take it to someone with a code reader and see what codes are in it. It sounds like an external problem to me. Such as a map sensor or a throttle position sensor. The toggle switch was probably put on as an anti thief switch OR a bad ignition switch bypass.Chrysler town and country 1997 speed sensor issue?
The switch your mentioning inside the transmission that's not just one switch it's a bunch of pressure switches and solenoids , it's called the solenoid pack module and I'd not attempt to change it if you've never done one before.

I'd want to change the transmission fluid and filter on it then either get a shop or mechanic etc to put the transmission module into the learning mode and after you drive it 400 to 500 kms see how it acts.Check with the dealership for any factory service bulletin or factory recall issues and any program or flash updates for the comp system especially the transmission module.

Trace the wiring closely that the toggle switch connects up to bec someone might off just added a kill switch so that perhaps others couldn't start that vehicle unless they knew about it.Basically I believe that the ignition module has 3 wires that connect to 3 different pins on the main comp=PCM and it also should have another wire that connects up to the o2 sensors and the shut down relay etc.

Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way be sure that the engine runs at the proper temperatures check the coolant's quality and mixture with a anti-freeze tester and be sure it's not mixed more then 50/50, -40c unless the area that you live in is subject to extreme cold temperatures then mix it no more then 60% anti-freeze and 40% distilled water.Remember that the temperature of the engine greatly affects the transmission fluid's temperature and that affects the internal gear shifting and the pressure switches and over all fluid pressure.

It could be that someone by passed the shut down relay so check around with the parts stores some will print out free diagrams of the shut down , PCM, TCM and the ignition module wiring and function chart etc.
