97 Chev 5.7 ltr starts & runs then shuts down?

The battery died from repeated start %26amp; quick shutdown. A few days after reading posts, I installed a new dealer ignition switch with wire harness. I didn't change the ignition cylinder. I installed a new battery and the vehicle started fine. I started %26amp; shut it down several times to check if it was operating correctly. Alternator appeared to be charging properly. Vehicle was performing normally. After 1/2 hour I shut it down to button up the covers and when I finished the job, it started doing the same thing again. The only adjustment I made was to snap on the plastic ignition cylinder butterfly over the key insert. Does the ignition cylinder have some electrical component that controls spark %26amp; fuel? It will rev up if you press the gas pedal then it dies like the spark is being cut out. Could there be some theft deterent system malfunction at work? Can I bypass this some how? Is there an electrical component to change?

Any ideas?97 Chev 5.7 ltr starts %26amp; runs then shuts down?
This is probably a vortec 350 small block-they are great engines, but the electronics can be maddening-here is a hint-make sure this is not a fuel pressure related problem, rule that out by checking the pressure after it dies on the down side of the fuel filter. If that is ok, then use an obd tester to see if the system is giving any trouble codes. If nothing, get it to a reputable shop. The only way to alter the theft deterrent system is to reprogram the computer.97 Chev 5.7 ltr starts %26amp; runs then shuts down?

Try cleaning the resistor on the key. Sometimes when they get dirty it can cause stupid problems like this because of the theft system.
