How do you deactivate the air restraint system on a 1997 Chevy Blazer?

I need to change the ignition switch which I believe requires pulling the steering wheel. I do not want the air bag in the steering wheel to deploy thus the reason for my question. How do you deactivate the air restraint system on a 1997 Chevy Blazer?
Disconnect the battery about 30 minutes before removing the airbag. Do not reconnect the battery until you are finished with the job. When you go to start the truck for the first time with the air bag reconnected stay clear of the steering wheel just as a precaution.

And no matter what just plain be care full with any airbag system. How do you deactivate the air restraint system on a 1997 Chevy Blazer?

paranoid people answer in paranoid ways

the systom is highly complex to avoid accidental deployment

disonnect the batt and have no fear it wont deploy

static electricity will not deploy the bag it has things in place to prevent this

the auto companies dont need law suits therfore precautions are in place
